Weetalabah Hereford Stud was founded in 1988 by Julie with the purchase of a female from Avon View and Gorian Hereford studs. The name is from Julie’ s family property “Weetalabah Station” at Coolah NSW. Julie grew up with a commercial background with a base of Hereford cows using Hereford, Angus, Charolais & Gelbvieh bulls over them. The progeny were then feed in the property feedlot and the Hereford females retained. Julie married Aderian Nixon of “Dulacca Station” Dulacca, grandson of Arch Nixon of the famous Devon Court Hereford stud in 1999.

Both Julie & Aderian won the Australian Hereford Youth Club trip overseas, Julie in 1993 to USA and Aderian in 1998 to Canada. Within their trips, they both have gained an enormous amount of industry knowledge both on a national and international scale.

The females originated from Courallie, Gorian, The Rock, and Moorlands and recently from the Smithston, Courallie and Emu Holes Dispersals.

Whilst also visiting Canada in 1993, Julie decided to purchase Twin-L Standard 65U ('Streak') after seeing the mark he left on every female at Randy & Sandra Radau’s Coulee Crest Farms. He left impressions of thickness with plenty of meat but retaining femininity with near perfect udders every time. He is a trait leader for Milk at +23 and EMA of +2.9 and an IMF of +0.3. All the original bloodlines were crossed with Streak to make the herd what it is today.

Bulls have been sourced using some of the best AI sires around as well as some purchased bulls. Bundarra Yang from Jim & Rita Reid at Dalby was purchased for the top price of $18000 at the 2005 Southern Cross bull sale. Yang has left some wonderful full bodied, very thick, structurally correct, good milking females. Unfortunately Yang injured himself after his first season which leads to the purchase of Foxforth Axe for the top price of $7500 at the 2008 Glen Innes Bull Sale. Axe is leaving some wonderful dark coated, long calves with a little extra growth. Recently also using some home bred sires to huge success.

Recently some poll Hereford genetics have been introduced, with the purchase of Polled females from Debarry and Norolle, plus using Polled AI bulls over some of the best Horned Hereford cows. In 2009 the first Polled bull Bahreenah Calypso was purchased at the Glen Innes Bull sale. His first calves are due in July 2010 and so far are looking great with low birthweights, dark red coats and thickly made.
