The stud was named after Julie’s parent’s property Weetalabah Station at Coolah, where a very successful commercial Hereford herd was operated, running approximately 500 cows and a feedlot for the steers, which were sold, to the domestic trade.

In 1999 Julie married Aderian Nixon of “Dulacca Station” Dulacca, Queensland.  For wedding presents they were given a cow Devon Court Alice R392 from Aderian’s grandparents and a bull Doolachah 203U R14 from Aderian’s parents.  The cow is still in the herd and the bull was used for a few years with a few females still retained.

Julie won a trip with the Australian Hereford Youth Club to the USA in 1993 and Aderian won the same trip but went to Canada and attended the Beef Improvement Federation Conference in 1998.  Within their trips, they both have gained an enormous amount of industry knowledge both on a national and international scale.

Whilst visiting Canada in 1993, Julie decided to purchase Twin-L Standard 65U ('Streak') after seeing the mark he left on every female at Randy & Sandra Radau’s Coulee Crest Farms.  He left impressions of thickness with plenty of meat but retaining femininity with near perfect udders every time.  He is a trait leader for Milk at +22 and EMA of +4.  All the original bloodlines were crossed with Streak to make the herd what it is today.  Females have been recently bought from the Injemira Reduction sale, Smithston, Courallie and Emu Holes Dispersals.

Aderian & Julie’s first major bull purchase to put over all the Streak Females and to move away from AI was Princeton Shelford V080 who was purchased at Glen Innes Bull Sale in 2002.  He has left very neat uddered, long bodied, structurally correct females.  At the 2005 Southern Cross Sale they bought the Top Price Bull Bundarra Yang for $18 000.  Although he broke down after the first season, a large quantity of semen was collected.  Yang has left structurally correct, well marked, high muscled animals. Yang's first females calved in July 2008 with perfect udders, and problem free.

In August 2008 Foxforth Axe was purchased for the top price of $7500 at the Glen Innes Bull Sale.

Weetalabah has been a recurrent name at many shows both locally and interstate including Sydney and Brisbane Royals collecting numerous broad ribbons. The main highlights so far have been Reserve Senior Hereford Female at Sydney, in 1998 with Weetalabah 65U Adventuress R2, Reserve Junior Champion Bull at Brisbane 2007 with Weetalabah 26H Buckaroo B011, Grand Champion Hereford Female at Beef 2000 with Countess T001, Reserve Intermediate Hereford bull, Beef 2000 with Weetalabah 65U Toblerone T006. There have been many numerous local show champions -  New England Female of the Year 1998, Interbreed breeders group at Quirindi Show 1997, Interbreed Bull and Female Dalby 2006, and Interbreed bull Dalby 2007, Interbreed Bull at Wandoan and Chinchilla 2006, Interbreed bull at Jandowae 2007. Steers have also been shown over the years with huge success.

Weetalabah currently runs approximately 50 cows at Chinchilla in south west Queensland, Australia, focusing on quiet temperament, structural soundness, easy doing, neat compact udders, high milk, medium framed, well-muscled females. The Stud's aim is to produce bulls for the commercial buyer that will not only give them perfect females to retain but have exceptional steers for the domestic trade.

The Weetalabah Hereford Herd has been a member of Hereford Group Breedplan since 1991.

Each year Weetalabah sells bulls at Wodonga National Sale, Glen Innes Hereford Sale and through private on farm sales.

Julie and her parents Ian and Gay Rabone founded Weetalabah Gelbvieh Stud in 1999, after preparing cattle for Steve Sullivans, SJ Stud at Warrumbungle with the purchase of a female from his dispersal sale. Since then females have been purchased from Norolle at Millmerran.

The Gelbviehs are run under the same guidelines as the Herefords. Focusing also on quiet temperaments, structural soundness, easy doing, neat compact udders, high milk, medium framed, soft females.

Sires have been sourced using purchased semen for AI purposes as well as natural bulls both bought and bred.

Currently Weetalabah run approximately 15 head of Gelbvieh females, but the plan is to increase the herd to at least 30 females in the next 5 years.  Bulls have been sold at Emerald Ag Grow, Toowoomba Ag Show, at the Brisbane Exhibition, as well as at the National Gelbvieh Sale.   Three females have been purchased from Glendale Stud in WA, after we saw the quality of their cattle while visiting WA in Sep 08 on the Gelbvieh trip.

Weetalabah has had wonderful success in the Brisbane show ring since starting showing the Gelbviehs in 2004.  Show highlights have been Grand Champion Bull in 2004 with Weetalabah Yard Stick and in 2006 with Weetalabah Atomic Power and Reserve Champion Female 2007, with Weetalabah PB Willy.   Weetalabah Cookie was the Reserve Champion Bull at the 2008 Brisbane Royal Show.

Weetalabah also shows the Gelbviehs locally throughout the southwest Queensland show circuit, with great success.
